Roof Topping Marks Milestone For £21m Thurnby Care Home

A roof topping ceremony has signalled completion of the main structure at Thurnby Fields, a new luxury care home on Uppingham Road in Thurnby, Leicester, marking a key phase in the £21 million project.

Part of Cinnamon Care Collection, the home is scheduled to open by the end of the year, offering residential, dementia and respite care. It will include 63 ensuite bedrooms and 10 one-bedroom care suites, set within landscaped gardens and featuring a cinema room, hair and beauty salon, café/bar, library and lounge areas, and a private dining room.

Mark Shockledge, Operations Manager, Cinnamon Care Collection commented: ““We are delighted to reach this important stage in the development of Thurnby Fields. The roof topping marks a significant step towards bringing this exceptional care home to the community. We chose to build our 24th care home in Thurnby due to the growing demand for high-quality care in the area, and we look forward to welcoming residents and their families when the home opens, and to working closely with the local community.”

Jordan Connachie, Managing Director of Kori Construction, said: “Reaching the roof topping stage is a proud moment for everyone involved in the project and reflects the hard work and collaboration of the entire team. We’re pleased to be on track with the build and to be transforming this brownfield site into a purpose-built luxury care home that will help address the local shortage of care beds, and will also generate employment in the area.”

The development is expected to create up to 60 full and part-time jobs, spanning roles from carers and housekeepers to heads of departments, kitchen assistants and gardeners.

Kori Construction’s social value action plan aims to deliver £3,233,737.06 of social value locally by hiring in the area, partnering with nearby suppliers, and providing apprenticeships and training for young people.

An on-site marketing suite for Thurnby Fields is due to open in summer 2026.
