Marlborough Highways Secures Expanded Highways Contract With Newham Council

Marlborough Highways has begun work on a new Highways Works Contract with the London Borough of Newham, marking a significant expansion of its role within the borough from February 2026.

The agreement builds on an established partnership between the two organisations and will see Marlborough take on wider responsibilities for maintaining and improving Newham's highways, footways and associated structures. Within the first year of the contract, the company will also deliver the majority of the borough's public realm improvements on the public highway.

Working closely with Newham Council and local supply chain partners, Marlborough said it will prioritise more sustainable ways of working, trialling innovative approaches to reduce emissions and supporting the council’s long-term environmental objectives.

The contract also includes a strong focus on community investment. Marlborough will work with the council to create employment opportunities for local people, provide accessible apprenticeships, engage with schools and colleges across the borough and support initiatives designed to inspire future careers in highways and infrastructure.

Commenting on the new contract, Matthew Revell, managing director of Marlborough Highways, said: "We are proud to strengthen our partnership with Newham Council and build on the trust we've earned since 2022.

"Our teams know the borough well, and this contract allows us to take on a wider role in maintaining and improving Newham’s streets and public spaces. From day-to-day maintenance to major schemes, our focus will be on delivering high-quality, reliable services that make a real difference for residents.

"Looking ahead, we are committed to investing in our people, working sustainably and continuing to deliver for the Council with the standards and care Newham have come to expect."
