Story Homes has confirmed it is continuing its partnership with The Rebuild Site, a Cumbrian-based community interest company that collects and redistributes surplus construction materials to keep usable items in circulation and out of landfill.

As part of the ongoing collaboration, members of the Story Homes production team recently visited The Rebuild Site’s Carlisle hub to see how materials from the company’s housing developments are being reused to support local community projects and reduce waste.

Surplus materials can arise on housing developments for a variety of reasons, including damage during transit, off-cuts, part packs of bricks or tiles, or materials no longer required as construction progresses. Through the partnership, Story Homes passes these items to The Rebuild Site, where they can be reused by local households, tradespeople and community initiatives.

During the visit, the team saw how a wide range of materials are collected, stored and redistributed. Items are provided free to community projects or made available at low cost to individuals undertaking building, repair or creative work. Stock at the site changes regularly depending on what materials have been saved, and visitors are offered advice and practical guidance on how reclaimed materials can be used.
