Stockport County Football Club, Stockport Council and Life Leisure have outlined long-term plans to transform Stockport Sports Village (SSV).
From 01 April, Stockport County will assume responsibility for operating SSV, building on the community work delivered by Life Leisure since 2012.
Under the plans, SSV will become the long-term base for the Club's Academy, women's teams, Football Education programme, and Stockport Town Football Club, establishing it as a leading football development centre within the borough.
Community and grassroots football will continue on site, with this offer expected to grow through future investment.
As part of the operational change, the gym, H1VE and studio classes at SSV will close to the public from 1 April. Life Leisure will support affected members to transfer to other centres across the borough, including expanded provision at Life Leisure Romiley and the new fitness and swimming facility due to open at the Marple Hub later this year.
The move will enable further investment in Life Leisure’s facilities across Stockport and supports the continuing success and growth of Stockport County Football Club.
