Work on a new children's play area at Wick Country Park is due to start in early February, with the £75,000 scheme expected to take around four weeks to complete.

In the first week, the old equipment will be removed and initial groundworks carried out before the delivery and installation of the new play kit.

The project follows the closure of the previous play area earlier last year after the ageing equipment reached the end of its life. The upgraded space has been designed to be modern, inclusive and engaging for children of different ages and abilities, featuring a Titan swing, a mountain net, a toddler unit, a Swing Together Tango set, an inclusive Roty roundabout, an inclusive Bravo set and more.

Cllr Jack Ferguson, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport, Children & Young People, said: "It's fantastic to see work now getting underway on this much-anticipated play area. Local families have been looking forward to this for some time, and this investment is all about creating a fun, safe and inclusive space where children can play, explore and make lasting memories.

"We've listened to residents in designing this play area and worked hard to make this project a reality. This new play area will be a real boost for families in Wickford, and we're proud to be investing in community spaces that bring people together."

The investment forms part of a wider programme to improve play facilities and increase play value across the borough. Residents will be kept updated as works progress, with the aim of reopening the play area as soon as construction is complete.
