Plans to deliver a new school for Brynllywarch Hall School have moved forward after Powys County Council appointed a construction partner.

The council has selected SJ Roberts Construction to build the new facility in Kerry, near Newtown.

Designed to meet the complex emotional, behavioural and social needs of learners aged eight to 19, the new school will create a modern environment tailored to its pupils.

The scheme is a central part of the council’s Strategy for Transforming Education in Powys, aimed at improving learner experiences and outcomes by investing in high-quality learning environments.

It also supports the Stronger, Fairer, Greener Powys vision, delivering an energy-efficient building that advances sustainability while enhancing educational achievement and well-being.

The purpose-built school will be constructed on the existing site and include specialist teaching spaces, breakout areas, outdoor learning zones and facilities designed to support the new national curriculum. Elements of the site will be accessible to community groups outside school hours.

Sustainability features such as air source heat pumps, solar panels and mechanical ventilation heat recovery will enable the building to achieve Net Zero Carbon in operation.

Construction is due to begin in spring 2026, with completion anticipated in autumn 2027.
