Oxford City Council is set to award the construction contract for the Oxpens River Bridge to Jacksons Civil Engineering Group.

Work is expected to commence in spring 2026, marking a key step in plans to enhance sustainable travel and connectivity across the city.

When complete, the traffic-free bridge will create a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists, linking the west and south of Oxford to the city centre between Oxpens Meadow and Grandpont Nature Park.

The bridge is a central component of the wider West End regeneration programme, which has been in development for more than a decade and aims to create a vibrant, accessible district that prioritises sustainable transport and green infrastructure. By strengthening walking and cycling connections, the project seeks to reduce car reliance, lower carbon emissions and support Oxford’s climate goals.

The council remains committed to delivering this key piece of infrastructure and will provide further updates as the scheme progresses.
