Following a competitive tender, Basildon Council has agreed a partnership with Basildon-based manufacturer New Holland to supply tractors for its Grounds Maintenance service, which will begin moving in-house from April 2026 and is due to be fully insourced by late 2026.

To support the transition, four tractors — two large and two small — have been ordered through agricultural machinery supplier Ernest Does. The tractors are built by New Holland and manufactured in Basildon, underlining the Council’s support for local industry and jobs.

The new equipment will help maintain parks, green spaces and public areas across the borough, enabling consistent, high-quality grounds maintenance for residents.

Cllr Aidan McGurran, Cabinet Member for Environment & Leisure, said: "This is very welcome news, particularly as we prepare to bring our Grounds Maintenance service back in-house. It supports our wider ambition to provide clean, tidy and well-maintained public spaces that residents can be proud of.

"We are delighted to be partnering with New Holland and Ernest Does and especially pleased that the tractors are being manufactured right here in Basildon. It seems particularly apt and pleasing that Basildon Council will be using tractors made in Basildon. Supporting local businesses while investing in high-quality equipment is a win-win for our community and our environment."
