Yorkshire Water is investing £1.3m to enhance its Hungerhill Lane sewage pumping station (SPS) in Edenthorpe, Doncaster.

The scheme is part of a £22m, five-year programme to improve rising mains—pipes that carry pumped sewage and wastewater—at 66 locations across the county.

Contract partner Peter Duffy Ltd (PDL) began initial survey work on Monday 12 January ahead of replacing 1.1km of pipework linking Hungerhill Lane SPS to Sandall Sewage Treatment Works.

Jess Birch, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: "The pipe replacement at Hungerhill Lane SPS is one of several upgrades to our wastewater treatment network to improve overall performance and reliability. Rising mains throughout the region will be invested in heavily over the next five years and this is one of the first projects to get underway as part of the £22m investment.

"This will collectively reduce disruptions to our customers and reduce the risk of pollution and the wastewater network backing up and impacting customers nearby."

Survey work is currently under way, and the company is contacting customers in the local area to outline what activity to expect and when.

Yorkshire Water is delivering its largest-ever environmental investment programme, totalling £8.3bn over the next five years, to upgrade infrastructure and enhance services for customers across the region.
