With the provision of comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and hygienic fitted furniture a crucial aspect of any healthcare environment, David Bailey Furniture’s market-leading bespoke furniture and unrivalled expertise was required for a major refurbishment project at Peterborough City Hospital.
The £12.5 million project, overseen by joinery contractors Houston Cox on behalf of North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, involved the refurbishment and conversion of office space into two 36-bed wards, a brand-new reception area, nursing station and other staffing facilities.

While enhancing infection control, the bespoke designed fitted furniture perfectly aligned with the aesthetics of the rest of the extensive refurbishment.

To aid the day-to-day needs of a busy city centre hospital, staff bases were created and tailored reception desks with glass consoles were designed and supplied to provide patients and visitors with a more welcoming and comfortable experience.
Offering the flexibility to divide patient rooms with minimal hassle while providing patients with the privacy they need, Yewdale Modvatrack curtain racks and curtains were provided. A range of additional furniture fixtures and equipment (FF&E) package items, such as grab rails, nylon coat hooks, screens, polycarbonate mirrors and modular shelving, was also supplied where required.

Sustainability and energy efficiency

This ranged from utilising a zero-landfill waste policy – diverting waste from installation into energy generation – and using energy-efficient manufacturing processes to lower the company's carbon footprint to taking advantage of sustainable materials to ensure longevity and reduce waste.
