Vistry and housing partner Plus Dane have highlighted swift progress on the delivery of 408 new homes at Leighton West in Crewe.
The development, which uses modern methods of construction and timber frame panels, has moved quickly. Of the 116 homes in the first phase, 26 frames are already in production, despite work only beginning on 4 November.
The project has also received increased backing from Homes England, which has confirmed funding for land marked as Parcel E and provisionally supported funding for Parcel H, facilitating the next stages of the scheme.
Leighton West is part of a wider masterplan near Leighton Hospital and forms a key part of Cheshire East’s local plan. Of the 791 homes planned across the site, Vistry will deliver 408, including 208 homes for affordable housing provider Plus Dane. Of these, Plus Dane will make 60% (123 homes) available as social rent, with the remaining 40% (85 homes) offered as affordable home ownership.
The development will also include a range of public amenities such as allotments, community orchards, footpaths, cycleways, formal and informal play areas, outdoor gyms, and green corridors. It will contribute over £6 million toward local services and facilities, supporting a new local centre, a primary school site, improved cycle links, highway works, NHS support, and Travel Plan monitoring.
Matthew Parkes, Managing Director of Vistry Manchester and Cheshire East, said: "We are pleased to be on site at Leighton West and to see strong early progress. This is an important development for the area and will play a significant role in boosting local housing supply. Partnering with such a respected housing provider in Plus Dane means we can create a sustainable mix of high-quality homes that genuinely meets local need."
Chris Morris, Executive Director Customer, Communities and Homes for Plus Dane, added: "We are delighted to see such rapid progress on the Leighton West site, as we are eager to be able to provide more much-needed affordable housing in Cheshire East.
"Plus Dane has a strong track record in delivering good quality new homes within strong and vibrant communities. Our current growth strategy aims to see us building 250 homes a year, and Leighton West will be a big part of us achieving those aims in the coming financial year."
