Bellway Marks 600-Home Milestone At Wynyard Estate

Housebuilder Bellway has completed the construction of its 600th home at the Wynyard Estate in County Durham, underlining its long-standing involvement in the transformation of the site into one of the North East’s most desirable residential locations.

The Wynyard Estate was originally acquired in 1986 by former Newcastle United chairman Sir John Hall, whose plans centred on creating a sustainable new community set within a woodland landscape. His vision was to combine high-quality housing with employment and leisure opportunities, including a golf course and the hall itself, now operating as a hotel and spa, all within extensive parkland. A primary school opened on the estate in 2015 and is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Bellway, which has its national head office in the North East, first became involved in the development in the late 1990s. Between 1998 and 2014, the company's North East division built 409 homes across a number of schemes. Following the establishment of Bellway Durham, work continued at the flagship 258-home Regency Manor development, where the 600-home milestone has now been achieved. When Regency Manor is complete, Bellway will have delivered a total of 667 homes at Wynyard.

Rachel Kitchen, Finance Director for Bellway Durham, said: "Reaching our 600th home here is an important milestone. The Wynyard Estate is one of the most desirable addresses in the North East and Bellway has played a key role in bringing the vision for this location to life.

"Now hundreds of people are living in and enjoying quality homes here, forming a new community and making the most of the beautiful location, with workplaces and wonderful leisure facilities nearby.

"Our developments here have brought wider benefits too, including supporting local employment and creating an improved environment through planting and landscaping."
