Yorkshire Water has commenced work on a £500,000 project to replace around 905 metres of water mains, starting on Silkstone Crescent in Kettlethorpe.

The upgrade, designed to boost the resilience and reliability of the local clean water network, is being delivered with contractor Galliford Try. It follows work that began on Milnthorpe Lane in December and will continue into the new year.

Project manager Shaun Chapman said it will provide a reliable and robust clean water network, cutting the risk of future bursts or leaks and minimising disruption for customers.

Yorkshire Water is in contact with local residents and businesses to keep them informed about progress and planned activity.

Shaun continued: "This is part of Yorkshire Water's £406m investment to replace over 1,000km of water mains across the region in the next five years. We have almost 30km of mains replacement scheduled in the Wakefield and Dewsbury area over the next two years and recently completed projects at Woolley Low Moor Lane and Daw Lane."

The scheme is scheduled to finish in early February 2026.
