Demolition work has begun on the stands at Edgbaston Stadium as part of the next stage of its £46 million Masterplan, supported by a £17.3 million investment from the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).

The redevelopment will replace the aging stands with enhanced spectator facilities and a new four-star Radisson RED hotel.

The stands, originally opened in 1958 and approaching the end of their designed lifespan, are being dismantled to make way for the new development. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with completion planned in time for The Men's Ashes in summer 2027.

"This redevelopment, backed by our investment, means it will continue to play its role in keeping our region at the top table of international sporting events for years to come.

"Tens of thousands more fans and visitors will be able to flock here every year – bringing more trade for our businesses and, as a result, more jobs and opportunity for local people."

The Edgbaston Masterplan has already delivered major upgrades, including one of the most modern pavilions in international cricket, the award-winning Corkfield apartment complex, and the Skyline rooftop terrace. The programme also includes ‘Xcelerate with Edgbaston’, a hospitality training centre providing apprenticeships and career opportunities for local residents in partnership with Edgbaston’s catering operator, Levy UK & Ireland.

The next phase will see the Raglan and Priory Stands replaced with a new 3,200-seat stand featuring a covered concourse, improved food and beverage offerings, and significantly enhanced accessibility for disabled spectators.

The Radisson RED hotel is expected to attract more than 60,000 overnight guests annually, with 85 of its 146 rooms offering pitch-facing balconies. The top two floors can be converted into hospitality boxes for an exclusive viewing experience, while a rooftop restaurant and bar with a wraparound terrace will offer panoramic views of Edgbaston and the Birmingham skyline.
