Work Starts On £16.5m Watling Meadows Primary School In North Nuneaton

Construction has begun on Watling Meadows Primary School in North Nuneaton, bringing a new primary facility a step closer for local families as building work gets under way this month.

The £16.5 million project is funded by Warwickshire County Council (WCC) and delivered with Central England Academy Trust (CEAT). Speller Metcalfe has been appointed as the contractor via the Constructing West Midlands framework.

Planned for Hayloft Way in St Nicholas Park, the school has been designed by Bond Bryan Architects and will sit on land allocated within the wider Callendar Farm housing development. The scheme will add essential capacity for Nuneaton and Bedworth as new homes are completed in the area.

Warwickshire County Councillor Stephen Shaw, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Finance and Property, said: "Watling Meadows Primary School represents a significant investment in the future of our children and the wider community and we are looking forward to working with Speller Metcalfe to deliver this inclusive, and inspiring learning environment. This project furthers our child friendly commitment to make Warwickshire a great place grow up and learn."

Due for completion in early 2027, the two-form entry school will offer 420 places, opening to pupils in phases from 2026. It will include a nursery and a specialist SEND Resource Provision for up to 14 children with communication and interaction needs.

The layout is designed to be welcoming and inclusive, featuring year-group specific outdoor play areas with canopies for all-weather use. Sports facilities will include grass pitches and a multi-use games area, while an Eco Explorers Zone will support nature-based learning. Landscaping, sustainable planting and on-site water management will boost biodiversity, alongside a new entrance plaza, safe pedestrian routes and cycle storage to promote active travel.
