Kier To Establish New Midlands Hub

Kier is set to establish a new Midlands hub after confirming it will take space at 19 Cornwall Street, a net zero office development in the heart of Birmingham's business district.

The UK infrastructure services, construction and property group will occupy the first floor of the building from summer 2026, joining law firm Squire Patton Boggs as tenants. The move underlines the strategic importance of Birmingham to Kier, which has a long-standing presence in the city delivering major infrastructure and regeneration projects.

Kier's Property division has led the transformation of the 139,000 sq ft building into a modern, energy-efficient workplace. The refurbished office now spans six floors and includes a roof terrace, breakout and communal areas, 150 car parking spaces and secure bicycle storage. The building is all-electric, with no on-site fossil fuel consumption, and is on track to achieve high sustainability standards, including BREEAM Excellent, WELL Gold and a NABERS 5 Star Design Reviewed Target Rating.

Birmingham has been identified as a key location for Kier's operations, with the company currently delivering projects such as a new learning campus for Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, upgrades for Severn Trent and the Canal and River Trust, highways services for Birmingham City Council, and further office refurbishments across the city.

Ahead of selecting 19 Cornwall Street, Kier's real estate team undertook a detailed assessment of several newly developed and refurbished office buildings across Birmingham. The review considered factors including transport connectivity, environmental performance, digital infrastructure, floorplate efficiency, design quality and the ability to foster a collaborative working environment. Following this evaluation, 19 Cornwall Street was identified as the best fit for the company’s long-term operational, sustainability and people-focused priorities.

Kier said the move supports its integrated "360 approach" to funding, designing, building and maintaining projects in the built environment. The company currently employs around 80 graduates and apprentices in the West Midlands and works with more than 370 local supply chain companies. Between October 2024 and September 2025, Kier provided 1,322 weeks of training across the region.

The new Midlands hub is expected to serve as a key base to support Kier's ongoing delivery in the area, while offering a modern, sustainable workspace designed to meet the needs of its workforce well into the future.
