GRAHAM Hands Over First 100 Homes In Milton Keynes Regeneration Scheme

The extensive regeneration programme led by Milton Keynes City Council at the Lakes Estate in Bletchley has achieved a significant construction milestone, with more than 100 council tenants now settled into their new residences.

The project aims to provide high-quality housing and a foundation for local families to build a better future.

The latest handover ceremony took place at Melfort Drive, where tenants began moving into their new properties. Local residents, members of the Lakes Estate Renewal Forum (LERF), councillors, and the project team joined together to mark the occasion.

The initial phase of the construction scheme is designed to deliver approximately 200 new homes, alongside improved community and local amenity spaces and an enhanced park area. Construction work, which is being undertaken by contractor GRAHAM, commenced last year and is anticipated to be finalised by the end of March next year. The new properties feature modern designs and high energy-efficiency standards, offering local families elevated standards of living.

The blueprint for the Lakes Estate regeneration was developed through years of collaboration with the local community, who played a key role in shaping the final plans that received approval in 2022. The ambitious project is backed by almost £70 million of investment from the City Council, supplemented by a grant of just under £15 million from Homes England.

Pat O'Hare, Regional Director at GRAHAM, highlighted the delivery progress: "We're delighted to see so many families settling into their new homes. This handover marks real progress in the regeneration of the Lakes Estate, creating modern, energy-efficient spaces that will improve quality of life. It's a privilege to work with the community and partners to help shape a brighter future for local residents."

Cllr Ed Hume, Cabinet Member for Housing, also commented on the impact of the newly constructed homes: "Moving into a new home can be life-changing. These properties aren't just bricks and mortar, they're a fresh start for families, giving them the space, comfort and security to build a brighter future. We're proud to have worked with the community to make this happen."
