Construction is underway on what will become the UK's third Community Heat Hub, a low-carbon heating solution designed to supply residential areas with hot water and heat via a specific heat network format.

This technology was developed specifically for deployment on low-density, low-rise housing sites.

Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire commissioned the solution from GTC for its Swinnow Park development in Wetherby, making it the first time the housebuilder has implemented the technology in this region. Nationally, this marks the second Community Heat Hub that Taylor Wimpey has contracted from GTC; the first successful flagship system is already providing sustainable, low-carbon heat and hot water at the Chilton Woods site in Sudbury, Suffolk. The third site featuring this technology is Vistry's The Gateway development in Bexhill, East Sussex.

The Swinnow Park development is set to deliver 762 homes, encompassing a range of two, three, four, and five-bedroom properties. All these new residences will be connected to the Community Heat Hub, effectively replacing the use of gas entirely across the development.

A GTC spokesperson commented on the solution's suitability for future regulation: "We're delighted to once again be working with Taylor Wimpey, delivering our zero-carbon, heat network at Swinnow Park. Our Community Heat Hubs answer the eagerly anticipated Future Homes Standard by reducing carbon emissions by 75-80% from day one."

The spokesperson further explained the system's compliance advantages: "The Future Homes Standard contains two notional specifications – heat pumps and heat networks. The Community Heat Hub combines these two specifications in one future-proofed, net-zero solution. It's a privilege to be working with Taylor Wimpey to start creating cleaner, greener communities around the country."
