Bellway West Midlands is celebrating a successful haul of commendations after three of its new developments were highly commended at the inaugural Homebuilder Safety Awards.

The developments recognised in the Best Large Builder category for the Midlands region were: Whitford Heights in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire; Arden Glade in Keresley, near Coventry; and Baldwins Gate Grange in Baldwins Gate, Staffordshire. The awards ceremony was held at the Grand Hotel in Birmingham.

Launched for the first time this year, the Homebuilder Safety Awards are designed to recognise the rigorous hard work and commitment shown by site teams in enhancing health and safety standards across the industry. Sites are assessed on various criteria, including fire safety, manual handling, documentation, working at height, occupational health, lifting operations, and safety signs.

Nick Edmond, Construction Director at Bellway’s West Midlands division, which is based in Tamworth, praised the teams for their achievement: “To claim a hat-trick of commendations at the first Homebuilder Safety Awards is no small achievement and is testament to the hard work, diligence and professionalism of our construction teams at the three sites.”

Mr Edmond specifically congratulated the site managers: Joe O’Toole at Arden Glade, Chris Bennett at Whitford Heights, and Ben Taylor at Baldwins Gate Grange, while acknowledging that a site manager is "only as good as their team," and extending thanks to their colleagues.

He also noted that the recognition was "good news upon good news" for Chris Bennett, who previously won a prestigious Seal of Excellence in the National House Building Council’s (NHBC) annual Pride in the Job competition earlier this year for the quality of his work at Whitford Heights.

Sites entering the awards are subject to a minimum of two unannounced assessment visits, with a third conducted if they are shortlisted regionally.

Across the UK, Bellway delivered an exceptional performance, securing the first prize for the North, Midlands, and South West regions, earning the company the highest number of regional wins in the Best Large Builder category. Furthermore, Bellway received an additional ten highly commended citations across the UK, beyond the three secured by the West Midlands division, giving the housebuilder the most commendations of any developer across all categories.

Bellway West Midlands is currently building new homes across the counties of Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire, and Derbyshire.
