Breedon Group plc, a key supplier of essential construction materials, has been selected as the surfacing contractor for the major A47 North Tuddenham to Easton project in East Anglia. The company is set to deliver and lay a substantial 195,000 tonnes of asphalt across the new road development.

The £250 million infrastructure project is being executed by Galliford Try on behalf of National Highways. It involves the construction of a new 9 km dual carriageway connecting Norwich and Dereham, with the primary goal of alleviating congestion and enhancing safety for road users in the region.

Breedon's specialist Surfacing Solutions team will manage the delivery and laying of all the asphalt, with their work scheduled for completion in April 2027.

A significant element of the contract is the materials sourcing: all the asphalt required will be supplied from Breedon's Longwater Asphalt plant, which is situated only five miles from the construction site. This proximity is expected to boost the project's carbon reduction goals by minimising the distance and frequency of material haulage.

This appointment follows a significant £3.5m upgrade to the Norfolk plant, which was undertaken by Breedon to enable it to support key infrastructure and major road projects across the region.

Breedon is also incorporating GPS technology into the work, utilising a dedicated eight-person surfacing gang supported by operational and project specialists. This technological approach is designed to enhance both accuracy and safety on site by reducing the number of operatives required.
