Leeds College of Building (LCB), the UK's sole further education college dedicated entirely to construction and the built environment, is celebrating a major success after winning two prestigious accolades at the 'Building the Future' Construction Awards 2025 in Birmingham.

The college achieved a clean sweep in the education categories, taking home both the 'Best Further Education Provider Supporting Careers in Construction' award and the 'Best Higher Education Provider Supporting Careers in Construction' award.

The annual awards ceremony, held at Edgbaston Stadium, recognises institutions and individuals who champion excellence in skills, innovation, leadership, and inclusivity within the built environment sector. The event was hosted by television personality Colson Smith and Damini Sharma, CEO of the OM Group.

Commenting on the double victory, LCB Principal & CEO Nikki Davis expressed her delight: "We are absolutely delighted to take home awards in both further and higher education. It is recognition of all the amazing work our staff do that contributes to student success."

Ms Davis highlighted the substantial growth of the college's higher education provision in recent years, calling the acknowledgement by the awards "fantastic." She added that the awards are a "testament" to the college's ability to offer "fantastic progression routes into industry" across all levels of construction education.

The awards panel lauded LCB as an organisation that perfectly exemplifies how specialist institutions can successfully transform construction education, stating: "Their combination of teaching excellence, diversity, sustainability, and digital innovation make it a powerhouse for construction training – and a vital bridge between education and industry."

LCB was represented at the event by Assistant Principals Chris Tunningley and Steve Connell, Head of Construction Crafts Wayne Chappelow, and Curriculum Manager Sarah Sunderland, who also heard from local influential figures, including West Midlands Metro Mayor Richard Parker.

Reflecting on the evening, Assistant Principal Chris Tunningley said: "It was a really great event and we're so proud to have bagged two awards. It's a fantastic recognition of everyone's hard work and commitment."

He offered a "huge well done to everyone at LCB," noting the achievement was a team effort, and thanked the employers and stakeholders who choose to work with and support the college.

LCB, which was established in the 1960s, operates across two campuses, both located within Leeds city centre.
