Mitie has retained its facilities management contract with the Welsh Government following a competitive tender, securing a further four-year term.
The agreement covers the Government's 21-building administrative estate, comprising 19 sites in Wales, one in London and one in Brussels.
Building on progress made to date, Mitie's work has supported an 82% reduction in carbon emissions across the estate since 2011. Since the current arrangement began in 2018, targeted measures have delivered a further 49% decrease. Under the renewed deal, 32 Mitie colleagues, including a newly appointed Energy Manager, will collaborate with Mitie’s wider Net Zero team to help the Welsh Government meet its 2030 Net Zero ambition. Mitie will aim to cut emissions by at least an additional 5% across all sites over the potential life of the contract and will maximise the diversion of waste from landfill.
Mitie also plans to invest £17.2 million into the Welsh supply chain over the potential life of the agreement, with all supplier employees paid at least the Real Living Wage. The company will provide more than 50 full working days of business advice to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, and local colleagues will have access to the equivalent of over 16 years of mechanical and engineering apprenticeship training. In addition, colleagues and suppliers will receive nearly seven full-time working weeks of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training to promote an inclusive workplace across the estate.
Eustace Xavier, Finance Director, Technical Services, Mitie said: "We're proud to continue our partnership with the Welsh Government, built on trust, shared values, and a deep understanding of the estate. This contract is more than Facilities Management, it’s about helping local communities thrive through our commitment to sustainability, local investment, and skills development."
