A new pedestrian and cycle crossing over Cot Hill in Plympton has opened, Plymouth City Council has announced.
Positioned near the Marshall Road junction, the crossing is already helping people navigate the busy road and provides a safer walking and cycling link between Saltram Park and the Plympton St Mary playing field.
Funded by National Highways, the scheme delivers a new dropped-kerb crossing on Marshall Road, a raised-table crossing on Dudley Road and a widened, shared-use path along Cot Hill.
Double yellow lines have been added on the eastern (uphill) side of Cot Hill between Marshall Road and Dudley Road to deter obstructive parking.
Councillor John Stephens, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Transport, said: "This scheme makes a really big difference for people walking between Saltram and other parts of Plympton. It also further enhances city links of the popular National Cycle Network.
"Road safety measures like this help residents walk and cycle more, which in turn improves health and wellbeing, while also reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions.
"It's great to see the new crossing being used by those living in and travelling through the area and we’d like to thank everyone for their patience during the construction."
The £430,000 project has been fully grant-funded by National Highways through Walk Wheel Cycle Trust (formerly Sustrans), custodians of the National Cycle Network. It forms part of a wider £4.92 million programme to improve the National Cycle Network nationwide.
