Ground has been broken on new allotments off Church Lane in Wormley, with construction that began in September this year progressing well.
The scheme, approved in November 2022, will replace the Halfhide Lane allotments, which are being cleared to make way for the Brookfield Riverside and Garden Village development.
Plans include up to 45 individual plots alongside new parking provision and enhanced landscaping. A large open area to the north will be left undisturbed to protect biodiversity, and a sustainable drainage system will manage surface water while improving habitats for local wildlife.
Councillor Paul Mason, Cabinet Member for Planning, said: "The start of works at Wormley allotments marks an exciting milestone in delivering new, high-quality facilities for our residents. This project not only secures allotment provision for the future but also enhances the landscape and ecology of the site."
The new site is expected to be ready for use once construction is completed in early spring 2026, with further updates to follow as the project progresses.
