Kier has agreed a year-long partnership with tech start-up Zero Gravity to deliver mentoring, learning and workplace opportunities that support young people into careers in construction.

Throughout the partnership, Kier employees will mentor Zero Gravity students, outline the range of roles available across the sector and advise on next steps. The support will also include in-person and virtual events that showcase opportunities at Kier, encouraging applications for work experience and early-career positions.

Zero Gravity focuses on improving social mobility across the UK, using technology to help young people from all backgrounds realise their potential.

In the programme's opening weeks, Kier has engaged with 673 students on the Zero Gravity platform, while 43 Kier employees have registered to provide mentoring.

According to the Sutton Trust, the UK has among the lowest social mobility rates in Europe; people from working-class backgrounds often face barriers to top jobs and earn on average more than £6,000 less than peers from wealthier families. The resulting lost potential is estimated to cost the UK around £19bn a year.

The collaboration launched earlier this month with a 'Pitch your Profession' masterclass, where Kier colleagues shared insights with Zero Gravity students.
