West Northamptonshire Council is inviting residents and developers to comment on a draft Infrastructure and Developer Contributions document designed to provide clearer, more consistent guidance to support planning decisions across the area.

The proposed Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) would replace three separate guides inherited from the former district and borough councils, creating a single, unified approach for West Northamptonshire.

The updated SPD would set out, in one place, how contributions are calculated, secured, delivered and monitored. It would also explain the rules and policies governing requests for contributions towards affordable housing, parks and open spaces, health services and other local infrastructure.

"This new SPD is an important step in ensuring that development across West Northamptonshire is supported by the right infrastructure and community benefits. By streamlining and updating our guidance, we’re making it easier for developers to understand their responsibilities and for communities to see how growth is being managed responsibly. We encourage residents, developers, and stakeholders to have their say and help shape the future of planning in our area," said Cllr Thomas Manning, WNC’s Cabinet Member for Planning.

The consultation runs until 21 December, with views invited via the Council's Consultation Hub.

Feedback will shape the final SPD, which is expected to be published in early 2026.
