Kier Appointed To £205m United Utilities Reservoir Works Framework

Kier has been appointed to United Utilities' Reservoir Works Framework, playing a key role in delivering critical upgrades and maintenance across the North West as part of the company’s AMP8 investment programme.

The framework, initially running for five years with the potential to extend to 2035, will support United Utilities' efforts to strengthen long-term water security and protect communities from the impacts of climate change.

Split into two lots with a combined estimated value of £205 million, the framework covers both reservoir maintenance and specialist ground engineering. Lot 1, valued at approximately £80 million, focuses on reservoir improvements and maintenance, while Lot 2, worth around £125 million, includes specialist ground and geotechnical works. Kier will be responsible for construction delivery, temporary works design, and carbon reporting, working alongside United Utilities and its delivery partners.

Kier will deploy its expertise in complex civil engineering and regulated water environments to carry out works including spillway enhancements, embankment strengthening, and ground stabilisation. The contractor will also support United Utilities’ carbon reduction goals by providing whole-life carbon data and identifying opportunities to integrate low-carbon materials and construction techniques.

Beyond infrastructure improvements, the framework is expected to deliver significant social value across the region. Kier plans to work closely with local communities to create jobs and training opportunities, support apprenticeships, and engage with schools and colleges to promote careers in engineering and construction. The company has also committed to prioritising local suppliers to help drive regional economic growth.
