Reading Borough Council has announced that it has signed a Development Agreement with McLaren Living to deliver the £250 million regeneration of Minster Quarter.

Under the plans, the partnership between the council and McLaren Living will see the creation of over 600 new homes, with 30% designated as affordable housing. The development will also feature 40,000 sq. ft. of new commercial space, including offices, retail, food and beverage outlets and a 102-bed hotel.

The project will deliver a mixed-use community, incorporating:

• High-quality public spaces, including a new 'Hexagon Square', designed as an attractive civic area and a gateway to Reading's Hexagon Theatre and new Studio Theatre.

• A new community hub, providing a space for local activities and services.

• New employment opportunities for local residents during and after construction.

Located on a 5.2-acre site previously occupied by the Civic Centre, the regeneration of Minster Quarter represents a key milestone in Reading Borough Council’s long-term vision to revitalise this historic part of the town.

The plans also include improved provision for the Charter Market on Hosier Street, enhanced public realm leading to Reading Minster, and the revitalisation of Dusseldorf Way into a pedestrian-friendly boulevard lined with trees and seating.

The Minster Quarter project forms a central part of the wider regeneration area, which includes the nearby Broad Street Mall, also being delivered by McLaren Living, with a combined total of over 1,200 new homes planned for Reading town centre.
