Construction Begins On New Social Housing Development In Maltby

A new social housing development has begun construction in Maltby, Rotherham, supporting the council's target to deliver 1,000 homes for local people by 2027.

The scheme will provide 45 affordable homes across three sites at Larch Road, Addison Road, and Elm Tree Road, including a mix of specialist bungalows, apartments, and two-, three- and four-bedroom family homes. The properties have been designed to meet the specific needs of the local community and address the area’s housing shortage, marking one of the largest single investments under Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council's housing programme.

GS Kelsey has been appointed as the contractor for the project via Efficiency North’s EN:Procure Gen-4 New Build Framework, which aims to streamline housing delivery while creating local jobs and community benefits.

Marina Inkles, commercial and contract support manager at Efficiency North, said: "Seeing construction underway at Maltby is incredibly rewarding – it's the kind of real-world impact our frameworks are designed to make.

"Through EN:Procure, we’re able to bring together the right partners who can meet something as fundamental as the housing needs of communities like Rotherham. Working in close synergy with the local authority, the collaboration is certainly a testament to what can be achieved when the sector pulls together, as we deliver not only high-quality homes, but also lasting social and economic value for the people who need it most."

The start of construction was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony, attended by key representatives including Cllr Linda Beresford, Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, who said: "The council is committed to supporting residents with their housing needs and enabling them to live well. We're on track to deliver 1,000 new Council homes by summer 2027 with the biggest new Council homes programme since the 1970s, and as part of this we are continually adapting to the borough's housing needs by delivering a range of properties to local people including apartments, bungalows and family homes.

"I'm delighted to see work starting on the development and equally pleased to hear about the local employment opportunities and other benefits being delivered as part of this project."
