Persimmon Homes Secures Approval For 543 New Homes At Llanilid Development

Persimmon Homes West Wales has received planning approval for the next phases of its flagship Llanilid development near Llanharan, paving the way for the delivery of 543 new high-quality homes.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's Planning Committee has approved Phases 5 to 8 of the development, part of a wider masterplan for up to 1,850 homes already granted outline permission. The decision follows extensive engagement with council officers, local stakeholders, and statutory consultees.

The upcoming phases will provide a diverse mix of one- to five-bedroom homes designed to meet local housing needs and foster sustainable community growth. Of the 543 homes, 88 will be affordable, comprising both social rent properties managed by a local housing association and discounted homes for qualifying buyers.

All homes will be zero-carbon ready and equipped with solar panels, supporting Persimmon’s sustainability goals and aligning with the Welsh Government’s decarbonisation targets. The plans also include measures to protect and enhance local biodiversity, such as retained woodland, ecological corridors for dormice and bats, and advanced sustainable drainage systems.

The approval enables continuation of the site's main spine road, incorporating a three-metre-wide shared pedestrian and cycle path, as well as provision for a future bus route—encouraging active travel and reducing car dependency.

As part of its commitments, Persimmon will deliver a new equipped playground in Phase 6, significant green infrastructure, and further contributions under the Section 106 agreement to support local ecology, biodiversity, and transport enhancements.

The HBF five-star rated housebuilder said the approval marks an important milestone in the ongoing transformation of the former Llanilid site into a thriving, sustainable community for local people.
