Construction is now underway on the £50 million redevelopment of Cramlington Learning Village for the Department for Education.

Main contractor Bowmer + Kirkland has officially broken ground on the three-storey school building following completion of site preparations. Representatives from the Department for Education, Northumberland County Council, WSP, and Cramlington Learning Village joined the Bowmer + Kirkland team on site to mark the start of works.

The redevelopment will deliver a new 10,000m² main teaching block, featuring modern classrooms, science laboratories, an assembly hall, dining areas, and breakout spaces designed to enhance the learning environment. Externally, new sports pitches, car parking, and social areas will be created to complement existing facilities.

The final phase of the project will see the demolition of the existing school buildings, with the exception of the Junior Learning Village and the Sports Building, both of which will remain in operation and form part of the completed development.

The new facilities are being delivered as part of the Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme, which aims to modernise school estates across England and ensure students have access to safe, high-quality learning environments.
