Plans Announced For 147 Homes On Former Oldham Mumps Station Site

Vistry Group has partnered with housing association First Choice Homes Oldham to deliver 147 affordable and energy-efficient homes on the site of the former Oldham Mumps Railway Station, pending planning approval.

The land, jointly owned by Oldham Borough Council and Transport for Greater Manchester, will be redeveloped by Vistry. Once complete, First Choice Homes Oldham will make 98 of the properties available for social rent, 40 for shared ownership, and nine for rent-to-buy.

The new homes will be built to the Government’s Future Homes Standard, designed to cut carbon emissions by 75-80% compared to current standards. This will be achieved through low-carbon heating systems and enhanced insulation. The site benefits from excellent transport links into Manchester, with the Mumps Metrolink station nearby.

The brownfield site, known as Southlink, is located in Oldham town centre and has remained vacant since the railway’s closure in 2009. It has long been earmarked for development and will receive financial support from both the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Homes England.

Matthew Parkes, Managing Director of Vistry Manchester and Cheshire East, said: "We're thrilled to have been selected for this important project, which aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver high-quality, affordable homes that meet the needs of local communities. This development not only revitalises a long-vacant brownfield site but also provides sustainable, energy-efficient homes in the heart of Oldham."

The planning application has now been submitted, with a decision expected from Oldham Council in the coming months.
