Train services have resumed between Wokingham and Reading following three days of essential engineering works carried out by Network Rail and South Western Railway.

The project involved the replacement of Reading Spur Junction, a key section of track linking the Great Western Main Line and North Downs Line. Due to the complexity and scale of the upgrade, engineers were unable to complete the works during a standard weekend closure, requiring an extended period of access to the railway.

A joint spokesperson for Network Rail and South Western Railway said: "We're grateful to our customers for their patience whilst these essential works which will make their journeys more reliable were carried out. Whilst we understand that there is never a good time to close the railway, these works took place at a time when we typically see less people travelling.

"We would also like to remind customers that upgrades to the line between Staines and Windsor and Eton Riverside will continue, with buses replacing trains until Saturday 1 November."

The upgrade forms part of a wider programme of investment designed to enhance rail reliability and support sustainable transport connections across the South East.

Meanwhile, the line between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside will remain closed until Saturday 1 November as engineers continue further improvement works.
