Liverpool City Council's planning committee has approved the installation of purpose-built temporary classrooms to support the opening of the new King’s Leadership Academy in Wavertree, delivered by the Great Schools Trust.

The approval follows confirmation of a funding agreement with the Department for Education, enabling the school to welcome its first cohort of 210 Year 7 pupils this September. Operating under the King’s Leadership Academy name, the school joins the growing Great Schools Trust network.

The temporary classrooms are designed and built to a high modern standard, providing fully equipped teaching spaces that will allow pupils and staff to begin lessons immediately. These facilities will remain in place only while plans for a permanent school building are finalised.

The proposed permanent campus is expected to be constructed on land currently occupied by unused office blocks, with the school projected to expand to around 1,050 pupils aged 11 to 16 once complete.

As part of wider plans to support the new school, Liverpool City Council will deliver highway and junction improvements near the site to enhance safety and accessibility for pupils, staff, and the local community. The works will upgrade a nearby road junction and improve both pedestrian and vehicle access, aligning with the Council’s broader efforts to improve local infrastructure and active travel routes.
