Ravensthorpe railway station will close from Sunday, 14 December 2025, until summer 2028 as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU), which will see the construction of a new, modern station 200 metres west of the current site.

During the closure, rail replacement bus services will operate between Ravensthorpe and Dewsbury stations to keep passengers moving while construction is underway.

The new station will feature step-free access, a footbridge with lifts, and a redesigned forecourt with improved drop-off facilities. A longer island platform will also be built to accommodate longer trains, providing more seats and greater capacity for passengers.

The closure forms part of TRU’s major infrastructure programme in the area, which includes the installation of a new four-track railway running through both the existing station site and the new location. This layout will allow faster trains to overtake slower ones, reducing journey times and improving reliability across the North.

The works will also see the construction of the new Baker Viaduct and the installation of overhead line equipment (OLE) to power future electric trains, supporting TRU’s goal of delivering a cleaner, more efficient rail network.

The area, known as the Ravensthorpe Triangle, has become one of the largest civil engineering sites in the UK. Recent progress includes the installation of concrete beams for the new Calder Road bridge, piers for the Baker Viaduct, and utility diversions on Thornhill Road as part of ongoing road and track realignment works.
