Steel Signing Ceremony Marks Major Milestone At Hamilton School Development

Morgan Sindall Construction's Midlands business has celebrated a key milestone in the development of Hamilton Primary and Secondary School in Birmingham with a special steel signing ceremony.

On 21 October, representatives from Birmingham City Council, the Morgan Sindall project team, Acivico, Cundall, Associated Architects, school staff, and students came together to sign the steel frame, hear speeches, and enjoy refreshments to mark the significant progress on site.

Procured through the Constructing West Midlands Framework, the £22.4 million project is set to deliver major enhancements to the existing school. Morgan Sindall will hand over the new Primary School building in early 2026, followed by the completion of the Secondary School in summer 2026.

The development includes an extension to the existing Primary School for special educational needs (SEN) students—adding to the facilities that Morgan Sindall previously delivered in 2016—alongside a new external play area and a redesigned car park with a safer pick-up and drop-off zone for taxis and minibuses.

A new 3,500 sq m standalone building for the Secondary School will provide sensory rooms, classrooms, accessible toilets, changing facilities, a kitchen, hall, and outdoor play areas, increasing capacity at Hamilton School to 160 pupils.

In line with Morgan Sindall's sustainability commitments, the project will incorporate PV panels and air source heat pumps to improve energy efficiency and reduce the school’s environmental impact.

Richard Fielding, Area Director for Morgan Sindall in the Midlands, said: "This project is all about creating an inspiring, inclusive, and supportive environment where every pupil can thrive, something we’re incredibly proud to be a part of. It’s been fantastic to work in partnership with Birmingham City Council and Acivico to deliver facilities that will make a real difference for children, families, and staff at Hamilton School, and we very much look forward to seeing further progress on site."
