Improvements to a key walking and cycling route in Colchester are set to begin on Monday 20 October, with upgrade works scheduled at the Albert Roundabout Junction.
The location is a crucial connection point between Colchester Station, Colchester Hospital and the city centre, making it a priority area for active travel enhancements.
The scheme will include:
Widening of shared-use walking and cycling paths
Creation of a single, widened toucan crossing to make crossing safer and more convenient
Refreshed road markings to improve visibility and route clarity
The project forms part of a city-wide programme of walking and cycling improvements, supported by Active Travel England. The upgrades were first consulted on in 2021 through the Active Travel Fund consultation, aimed at encouraging more sustainable and accessible travel options across Colchester.
