A key section of Calder Road in Ravensthorpe will close to vehicles from Monday 27 October as part of a major infrastructure programme linked to the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU).

The closure will remain in place until summer 2026 to enable significant road and rail improvement works.

The nearby Thornhill Road / Fall Lane, which has been closed for utility works, is scheduled to reopen on Saturday 25 October ahead of the Calder Road closure. Advance warning signs and diversions will be installed, with motorists and residents advised to check roadworks.org for the latest travel updates.

The closure is required to allow for road realignment, utility diversions and improvement works connecting Ravensthorpe Road and Calder Road to the new Calder Road bridge, which is set to become operational in 2026.

The new bridge will align with a redesigned track layout, separating fast and slow railway lines to make passenger journeys faster and more reliable.

"We're aware that the closure on Calder Road may cause some disruption to residents and commuters, so we’ve worked hard to minimise the impact by keeping a pedestrian route open and ensuring that vehicle access remains in place to all businesses, due to the phased closure approach.

"The work on Calder Road is an important part of the wider rail upgrades in Ravensthorpe, which will ultimately enable us to build a new station that serves faster, more frequent and more reliable services across the Transpennine route."
