Network Rail and its contractor Kier Construction are carrying out the remaining work to complete a £21 million upgrade at Salford Crescent station.

The improvement work is now 75% complete and the project can now be carried out without the need to close the railway.

Throughout this year, a third platform has been developed with stair and lift access from the ticket hall.

In recent weeks new platform canopies and staircases have been craned into position during the final full weekend closure of the station between 13 and 14 September.

The work is expected to be fully complete in Spring 2026.

James Ashley, Network Rail scheme project manager, said: "We'd like to thank passengers travelling through Salford Crescent this year for their patience while we’ve been carrying out these transformational upgrades. 

"We've worked very closely with our partners and contractors to keep the disruption to a minimum. It's great to see the new facilities really taking shape, with the stairs, lift shafts and platform canopies progressing at pace and giving a real sense of what the station will look like when it's complete next year."
