RediRack Completes Another Brie-lliant Racking Project For Lancashire Cheesemakers

RediRack has completed another pallet racking project for long-standing customer Dewlay Cheesemakers.

The family-run Lancashire-based business is now in its third generation, with brothers Nick Kenyon and Richard Kenyon at the helm.

UK Pallet Racking Manufacturer and Installer

Dewlay Cheesemakers initially contacted RediRack after discovering us online. Due to the ongoing expansion of their business, the need arose for a robust and reliable pallet racking system. They have since used RediRack for projects in 2016 and most recently, in 2025, after the construction of a new chill store.

The business, which was founded in 1957, had many different racking systems installed, but once Nick and Richard stepped into their current roles, they decided to replace the mismatch of various systems and replace with RediRack. They wanted all racking and system components to be interchangeable and quickly available, which is exactly what RediRack offers as a UK manufacturer and supplier. All our Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts are available for quick, cost-effective delivery and installation.

Pallet Racking for the Food Industry

Our installation at Dewlay Cheesemakers in 2016 was on a supply-only basis and included adjustable pallet racking (APR) 7 pallets high, which allowed for the storage of 1736 pallets. The aisles were designed to a width of 3000mm to suit the site's reach trucks, with the racking consisting of HD4250 bolted post sections in a pre-galvanised finish.

In 2025, the Lancashire Cheesemaker decided to add a further 163 pallets, which included the supply of more RediRack HD4250 adjustable pallet racking, ideal for full accessibility to products. They also required an additional 112 picking levels with heavy-duty galvanised steel drop-over panels for the safe storage of cheese wheels.

"RediRack quickly instilled in us confidence that the project would be completed right the first time," Nick Kenyon

Managing Director.

Drive-In Pallet Racking Installation

RediRack also manufactured, supplied and installed HD4250 drive-in pallet racking, at 4 pallets high, for the narrow ambient warehouse located directly next door. This was to replace a single run of RediRack’s adjustable pallet racking. This high-density solution increased pallet spaces from 18 to 96!

As a FILO, or first-in-last-out system, the cheese manufacturer and supplier use their drive-in racking to store products in bulk, such as salt and packaging. These are loaded and unloaded using counterbalance and reach trucks.

RediRack Racking Protection Range

Pallet Racking Health & Safety

Dewlay Cheesemakers made the most of the racking protection products that RediRack supplies and added Rack-End Barriers to all rack ends and Post Protectors to every front post on the drive-in pallet racking, to achieve maximum longevity and reduce accidental damage.

Our in-house SEIRS-trained installation teams also fitted Anti-collapse mesh to the single run to protect personnel working behind it and ensured the whole project was health and safety compliant from start to finish – (cheddar safe than sorry)!

"Our experience has been positive, I would definitely recommend these guys for your racking requirements," Nick Kenyon Managing Director.

Racking Technical Details

• We used 100mm wide heavy-duty post sections, which are less susceptible to damage and perfectly designed for busy warehouse environments with high throughput.

• To reduce deflection and improve performance, we used a deeper 4-tang connector bracket on the beams with a 75mm down-weld to store dense pallets, such as those storing cheese.

• To increase longevity, we used a pre-galvanised finish for the frames in the chill store to protect them from corrosion in the moist environment.
