Kier Appoints Group MD Of Its Construction Division

Kier has named Martin Staehr as the new Group Managing Director of its Construction division.

In this role, Martin will join the Group's Executive Committee and oversee Regional Build, Strategic Projects, Kier Places and KME.

Martin will join Kier in January 2026, taking responsibility for an order book valued at £4.5 billion and a division that manages around 200 live projects across England, Scotland, and Wales at any given time. Over the past six years, the business has delivered 266 education projects and, in the last year alone, generated £1.9 billion in revenue. It also completed HMP Millsike, the UK's first all-electric prison, maintained more than 70,000 residential properties, contributed over £275 million in social value to communities, and created 734 apprenticeship opportunities across the division and its supply chain.

He has extensive experience across MEP manufacturing facilities, as well as delivery of regional buildings and major projects in the justice, defence, health, science and education sectors.

Passionate about performance, people and innovation, Martin has a proven track record in creating diverse and high-performing teams and a focus on delivering value and quality to customers.

Current Group managing director for Construction and CEO designate, Stuart Togwell, will become chief executive of Kier Group from 1 November and James Askew, Construction’s commercial director, will be interim Group managing director of Construction until January 2026.
