Galliford Try's Catherine Infant School project has been shortlisted in the Large Non-Residential Scheme of the Year category at the ProCon Leicestershire Awards.

The annual awards recognise outstanding achievements in residential, non-residential, infrastructure, and regeneration projects, as well as the people behind their design, development and construction.

Catherine Infant School is Leicestershire's first Net Zero Carbon in Operation (NZCiO) school, delivered as part of the Department for Education's School Rebuilding Programme, which is set to rebuild and refurbish over 500 schools across England.

Procured through the DfE Construction Framework 2021, the £14m project replaces the existing facilities of the Ofsted-rated Outstanding school. It is one of 18 schools currently being delivered by Galliford Try as part of the DfE’s commitment to low carbon and NZCiO initiatives.

Designed by Maber, the new building accommodates 420 pupils, including 10 Designated Special Provision spaces. With a strong emphasis on inclusivity, the school supports a richly diverse community where 38 languages are spoken. The building incorporates a range of sustainable features including solar photovoltaic panels, a green roof, a new car park, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), and direct access to outdoor play spaces from classrooms.
