Caredig has announced the appointment of Cardo (Wales and West) as its new planned maintenance partner, in a £2 million-per-year contract to support more than 2,800 homes across Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, and Neath Port Talbot.
The contract will initially run for two years, with the option to extend for a further two, and will cover a wide range of essential maintenance services including scheduled upgrades, major works in empty homes, routine repairs, and out-of-hours emergency support.
Beyond delivering maintenance and repairs, the partnership will also focus on generating social value through a dedicated Community Benefits Programme aimed at creating employment, training, and wellbeing opportunities for residents.
Planned initiatives for the first year include:
Creating five full-time roles for local residents through recruitment partnerships.
Delivering 40 hours of school engagement activities such as career talks, literacy sessions, and safety workshops.
Providing 100 apprentice weeks for residents in collaboration with local colleges and training teams.
Offering 16 hours of pre-employment support including CV writing and mock interviews.
Creating practical work experience placements for up to three residents.
Prioritising local suppliers, with more than 75% of the spend going to Welsh SMEs within Cardo's supply chain.
Contributing £5,000 and 40 volunteer hours to initiatives supporting older, disabled, and vulnerable residents.
Launching environmental projects such as school gardens and wildlife schemes.
