Kier has been awarded two early contractor involvement (ECI) contracts by Southern Water under its AMP8 Strategic Delivery Partner Framework, with a combined value of £28.8 million.

The contracts cover both clean and wastewater projects and underline Southern Water's confidence in Kier’s ability to deliver complex infrastructure upgrades across the region.

The first contract, Priority Water Treatment Works Growth – Bundle 4 (wastewater), is worth £23.5 million and covers upgrades at seven sites: Billingshurst, Dymchurch, Goddards Green, Ham Hill, Northfleet, Sidlesham, and Stockbridge. The works will enhance treatment capacity and resilience, helping to meet future demand and support regional population growth. Kier will collaborate with Southern Water to introduce innovative, low-carbon solutions that reduce environmental impact and deliver best value.

The second contract, Nitrate Removal Schemes – Batch 1 (water), is valued at £5.3 million and covers four Water Supply Works at Madehurst, Patching, Mossy Bottom, and Patcham. The scheme will focus on developing and optimising solutions to lower nitrate levels in line with regulatory standards, ensuring compliance with drinking water quality requirements. The ECI stage will prioritise design progression, constructability, and programme certainty before moving into the main construction phase.

Both awards will be delivered under the NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract, incorporating early contractor involvement to drive efficiency, reduce risk, and support Southern Water’s sustainability and resilience commitments.

Kier confirmed that sustainability and social value will be embedded throughout both projects, including low-carbon design options, waste and energy reduction in construction, and engagement with local supply chains. Employment and training opportunities, such as apprenticeships and skills development, will also be created to deliver lasting benefits for communities across Southern Water's operating area.
