Kier To Redevelop King's College London's Bush House South West Wing

Kier has been appointed by King's College London to deliver the redevelopment of the Bush House South West Wing, a landmark project forming part of the university’s long-term estate masterplan and expansion strategy.

The multi-million scheme, located at the Strand Campus on the north bank of the River Thames, will see the transformation of the eight-storey, 13,000 sqm building and basement. Plans also include the creation of a new communal Agora space and an atrium roof within the existing courtyard.

The redevelopment will introduce state-of-the-art teaching, social and event facilities, alongside modern catering areas, a central student hub and dedicated student services. Each element has been designed to enhance the student experience and meet the evolving needs of the university community.

Architects Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates have designed the scheme with a strong focus on sustainability. It is targeting Passivhaus EnerPHit standards with a goal of achieving an embodied carbon score of under 350kgCO₂e/m². The project also aims for a BREEAM 'Outstanding' rating and WELL 'Platinum' certification, setting new benchmarks for sustainability in the higher education sector.

Kier will deliver the scheme through its 360 approach, working with in-house design and mechanical and electrical teams to optimise efficiency and value.

The project forms part of King's College London's 'Strategy 2026' and '2029 Strategic Vision', both of which aim to consolidate the university’s position among the world’s top 25 universities. It also represents a key milestone in uniting the Aldwych and Strand Campus sites into a more integrated academic hub.
