Army personnel in the East Midlands are set to benefit from a major investment in new and upgraded facilities, following the award of a £237 million construction contract to Bovis Construction Limited.

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) confirmed that work will take place at Kendrew Barracks in Rutland and Bulwell Army Reserve Centre (ARC) in Nottinghamshire as part of the Defence Estate Optimisation (DEO) Portfolio. The £5.1 billion DEO programme is designed to deliver more modern, sustainable infrastructure across the Defence estate, improving the lived experience of service personnel and meeting future operational needs.

Under the project, Bovis will deliver a combination of new buildings and refurbished facilities at both locations. At Kendrew Barracks, the work will include new Single Living Accommodation for junior ranks, regimental offices, as well as upgraded medical and catering facilities. Additional supporting infrastructure will also be provided.

At Bulwell ARC, investment will deliver new unit offices, secure storage facilities and a band practice space.

The programme is expected to bring long-term benefits for both Regular and Reserve personnel, enhancing quality of life while supporting military capability. At Kendrew Barracks, the works will also support the relocation of 36 Engineer Regiment from Invicta Park in Maidstone, while other units are set to move from Grantham, Telford and Nottingham, enabling the disposal of several older sites.
