Balfour Beatty has been appointed by Rolls-Royce as the sole contractor on its fissile construction framework, delivering critical nuclear-licensed infrastructure to support the manufacture of fissile components for the Royal Navy's submarine propulsion systems and the new AUKUS submarines.

The framework covers the delivery of highly specialised new manufacturing and processing facilities within the licensed nuclear site boundary, as well as the refurbishment and upgrade of existing plant infrastructure. Extensive site-wide enhancements will also be carried out, meeting the stringent safety and security standards required in the nuclear sector.

Balfour Beatty said it will leverage its end-to-end capabilities across ground engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, and nuclear expertise to deliver the programme, drawing on its experience of working in complex and secure environments.
