Therme Manchester Names Sir Robert McAlpine Construction Lead

Therme Manchester, the UK's first urban wellbeing resort, has appointed Sir Robert McAlpine as Construction Manager for the landmark project at TraffordCity.

The appointment marks a significant step forward following the creation of Therme Horizon, a new €1 billion joint venture between Therme Group and leading investment firm CVC. Sir Robert McAlpine has already been supporting Therme under a pre-construction services agreement and will now oversee the management of the construction phase.

Therme Manchester is set to become one of the region's most transformative destinations, aligning with Therme's values of sustainability and community. The resort will feature Europe's largest thermal pool complex under one roof, along with indoor and outdoor botanical gardens, immersive art installations, and extensive health and leisure facilities. Plans include more than 25 water slides, the UK’s largest sauna area, multiple steam rooms, and a wave pool designed for families.

Professor David Russell, CEO of Therme UK, said: "We are delighted to appoint Sir Robert McAlpine to support the management of construction for Therme Manchester. Their unrivalled expertise in delivering large scale, complex projects, along with a shared commitment to excellence, community and sustainability, makes them the ideal team to bring Therme Manchester to life. We look forward to working together to deliver a project that will have a lasting positive impact on Greater Manchester and beyond."

Located in TraffordCity, the resort will be connected to Greater Manchester’s Bee Network and Metrolink system, as well as new cycling and walking routes along the Bridgewater Canal. A multi-storey car park will also form part of the development.

Construction updates are expected to be released in the coming months as work progresses on the £1 billion project.
