Gloucester Signal Box Undergoes Major Upgrade

Passengers are being advised to plan ahead later this month as Network Rail carries out essential upgrades to Gloucester signal box, replacing more than 10,000 wires to improve reliability for rail users.

The multi-million project will take place from Saturday 27 September to Sunday 5 October, during which 12 miles of wiring will be replaced. The signal box, which has controlled services across Bristol, Worcester, Swindon and south Wales since the late 1960s, is being modernised to ensure trains continue running safely and efficiently in the future.

While the work is completed, no trains will be able to stop at or travel through Gloucester station, with replacement bus services operating across the region.
