Roofing specialist BMI has announced free pitched roofing courses for the second half of 2025, aimed at addressing the ongoing shortage of skilled workers in the sector.

The courses, delivered through the BMI Academy in Gloucestershire, are open to apprentices, contractors, merchants, specifiers, and other roofing professionals. They combine classroom learning with practical training on BMI Redland systems, giving participants the opportunity to develop skills that can be applied immediately on site.

New dates have been confirmed for the two-day BMI Basic Course – an introduction to Icopal flat and Redland pitched roofing systems. These are: 2–3 September; 7–8 October; 4–5 November; and 9–10 December.

The NFRC State of the Roofing Industry Report shows that almost half of roofing contractors struggle to recruit skilled workers, underlining the demand for accessible, high-quality training. BMI has responded by expanding its training offer and investing in additional staff at the Academy to meet this need.

In addition to the Basic Course, BMI provides tailored sessions on pitched roof estimating, Cambrian Slate installation, plain tiling, and British Standards and best practice.

The BMI Academy team now includes Lead Technical Trainer Stuart Farndell, Technical Trainer Ben Prosser, and Marketing & Academy Coordinator Charlotte Dixon – all bringing strong industry expertise to support training delivery.
